Keri O’Neilis a Senior Coral Scientist at the Florida Aquarium Center for Conservation.  She began her career as an aquarist at the National Aquarium, and then returned to graduate school where she worked on culturing Atlantic stony corals for restoration and monitoring reef health across Florida.  She is a firm believer that reef aquarium husbandry and technology plays a critical role in reef conservation and restoration, and has spent most of the last 10 years trying to bring these two worlds together. In 2019, her team at The Florida Aquarium achieved the first lab-induced spawning of a Florida native coral in conditions that will allow the offspring to be re-introduced to the wild.  She will talk about the road to achieving an aquarium spawning in one of Florida’s most threatened coral species, and how the reef aquarium hobby continues to drive advancements that will play a critical role in shaping the future of coral reefs.

Keri was first inspired to work with corals on snorkeling trips in Florida with her Dad and school trips to the National Aquarium.  She is motivated by the fact that there is always something new to learn with corals and reef aquariums, and that every different tank and species teaches her something new.

Julian Sprung is a graduate of the University of Florida, with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Zoology, and is President of the aquarium industry company Two Little Fishies, Inc. that he co-founded in 1991.

Julian became known to the aquarium hobby through his monthly column Reef Notes in FAMA magazine, and many years of traveling the lecture circuit at aquarium club meetings and exhibitions around the world. His books include The Reef Aquarium, volumes One, Two and Three, which he co-authored with J. Charles Delbeek, Corals: A Quick Reference Guide, Invertebrates: A Quick Reference Guide, and Algae: A Problem Solver Guide.
